Let's Talk Nails #2 | Sponging

A few days ago a tried out the nail effect of 'sponging' to create an ombre look so I thought I'd share that with you, as well as giving a small tutorial :)

These are the three nail varnish's I used to create the look-
Base and Top Coat: Miss Sporty Nail Expert For Short Nails
First Colour: Topshop Nails in Mannequin
Second Colour: Avon Nailwear Pro+ in Inky Blue
I also used a small make-up sponge to create an ombre look

First of all I painted a clear base coat on the nail, then used my first colour after it had dried

After the first colour had dried I painted some of the second colour onto the make-up sponge and carefully dabbed it onto the nail. This took a bit of practice to get right and it was quite a messy process- to stop it getting too messy I stuck sellotape around my nail so it was easier to clean up :)
To get the the effect I desired I pressed the sponge harder at the top of the nail so as to get a block of colour and began pressing more lightly as I moved down the nail. I messed up a few times so had to start the whole process over again but I slowly got better with each nail! Hopefully if I try this technique again I will continue to get used to it :)
After this had all dried I painted a layer of clear top coat to give the nails a shine and prevent chipping too quickly!
I think this type of look could work with a range of colours and I hope to try it again with different shades!

I hope this was useful to those interested in nails! Please let me know if you've tried this out before as I would love to see :)

Would You Rather? Tag

I came across this tag on Sinead's blog and really enjoyed reading her answers. I also love 'get-to-know-me' type posts because, as I have said before, I am a nosey person so I thought I'd try it out myself :)

1. Would you rather lose all of your mascaras, eye-liners  lipsticks, and lip glosses or lose all of your palettes and eye shadows?
I would probably rather lose my palettes and eye shadows because  believe it or not, I don't own any palettes! Although I love wearing eye shadows when I go out but I don't think I could go without mascara or eye-liner as I think they are essentials both on a day-to-day basis and when you're going out :)

 2. Would you rather chop off all your hair or never be able to cut it again?
I'd rather chop it all off! I've always said I'd like to cut it off because it annoys me so much and I think a wig would be so much easier- you could change the colour, length, cut and style of it everyday!

3. Would you rather have a coral cheek or a pink cheek?
I'm not sure. I've only just bought my first ever blush so I think I need to try that out first :) Although I think I do prefer pink overall

4. If you had $1000 to spend, would you rather buy clothes or make-up?
Definitely clothes! I feel as though clothes make more of statement than make-up and I love being able to change up my look as often as possible so a grand would help that!

5. Would you rather apply lipstick as eye-liner, or eye-liner as lipstick?
I think I'd rather apply lipstick as eye-liner as you'd be able to blend it and do a bit more with it, although I don't think either would look too great! ;)

6. Would you rather only shop at MAC or Sephora?
I think Sephora has more make-up brands than just MAC so I'd probably have to say that. Although I don't think there are Sephora stores in England (correct me if I'm wrong) so that probably wouldn't even be possible!

7. Would you rather only use one eyeshadow colour or one lip colour for the rest of your life?
Probably one lip colour because I only actually own one! I'm vowing to be more adventurous but I'm not sure whether lipsticks suit me or not. Anyway, I like to use a few eye shadow colours because I love dark smokey eyes when I go out and neutral colours for the day so I definitely wouldn't like to use just one colour for this!

8. Would you rather wear winter clothes in summer or summer clothes in winter?
Probably winter clothes in the summer because we barely get a summer in England anyway! :P and I also feel the cold a lot so I don't think I could cope with summer clothes in winter!

9. Would you rather have dark nails or bright nails all year round?
Probably dark nails. I know that's a bit depressing in the summer but I feel as though darker colours suit me more :)

10. Would you rather give up your favourite lip product or your favourite eye product?
Probably favourite lip product as I don't really own one that I am in love with and I have eye products that I do really love!

11. Would you rather only be able to wear your hair in a ponytail or a messy bun?
I'd rather not have to wear my hair up at all because I have massive ears so it's not a good look for me :P however for the purpose of this I'd have to a ponytail as I think it would play down the size of my ears a bit more than a bun (I have no idea why I think this though!)

12. Would your rather never be able to paint your nails again or never use lip gloss?
Never use lip gloss. They annoy me a bit anyway as I can't seem to find one that isn't massively sticky (if you have any recommendations, let me know). Also, I love painting my nails as I feel like it makes such a statement :)

13. Would you rather shave your eyebrows and have none at all or sharpie them in everyday?
Probably shave them off! I have a full fringe anyway and you can never actually see them so I don't think it would make too much of a difference!

14. Would you rather live without make-up or nail polish?
Make-up! People definitely notice that a lot more than your nails!

I hope you are as nosey as I am so enjoyed this post :)
I tag anyone reading to do this and please let me know if you do!

Teaching Outfit #1

As I think I have mentioned I am starting a teacher training course in September which means that in a few weeks I will become a regular fixture in a school, going in 3 to 5 times a week! I am really excited about this as I love being in the classroom and interacting with the children and staff. However, there is another reason as to why I'm excited by this prospect- this is becuase it means I get to go out and buy new clothes especially to wear to school! :D I don't own many smart clothes so this is just another excuse for me to hit the shops and buy buy buy!
So I thought I would start this little section where I either put together an outfit idea that I'd love to purchase or do an OOTD when I actually start going to a school :)

As I haven't begun my placements yet I decided to put together a little wishlist of an outfit that I really like so here goes...:)
Floral Skater Dress- £14.99, New Look
Open Knitted Cardigan- £22.99 New Look
Cut Out Slipper Pumps- £17.99 New Look
Swirl Studs- £5.50 Topshop
Matte Nails in Brutal- £6.00 Topshop

This outfit would also be worn with tights or leggings to make it more appropriate! Let me know what you thought of this outfit and any recommendations that you may have for classroom appropriate clothing!

A Day In The Life | Relaxing Time

I have been so busy recently that I haven't had any time to just relax; therefore I set aside my day today to have some 'me-time'. Don't get me wrong, I love spending loads of time with my family and friends (as I have been recently) but sometimes I like to have sometime to myself :) It allows me to clear my head and just get my life in order- does anyone else get like that sometimes?

I spent this morning making the most of the weather by sitting in the garden reading Harry Potter, listening to music and sipping on Orange and Pineapple squash (my favourite!). Reading and music are two of my favourite things to do to relax and it's even better when the sun is shining!

I then decided to be productive this afternoon and get on with some uni work before I start my new course in 2 weeks. I've already done a degree, graduating this summer, and am now going to go back to begin a PGCE in Primary teaching so I can qualify as a teacher- I am so excited! This afternoon I was working on a science quiz so I could the find areas in which I need to improve upon prior to beginning the course. I did a lot better than I expected, getting 53 out of 67- having not learnt science for many years I was impressed! :) I also had a healthy lunch of cous cous with red peppers, onions, sweetcorn and cucumber- quick, healthy and filling!

I now plan on having an evening watching Grey's Anatomy. If you haven't ever watched this show you seriously should, it's possibly one of the best shows to ever be made! It's about a group of doctors working in a hospital, their patients and their own lives. Yeah it sounds a bit boring but it's so dramatic and never fails to bring a tear to my eye every episode (I love when a TV show/movie/book can make me that emotional!). I have already watched the series through once and have started again because I love it so much :) I highly recommend this show to anyone reading! If anyone has any recommendations for TV shows to watch I would love to know- I need to find some new shows instead of re-watching the same ones over again!

Hope you've all had a lovely day :)

Review- Neutrogena Visibly Clear Pink Grapefruit Oil Free Moisturiser

For the longest time I have been on the look out for a moisturiser that could work wonders on my incredibly oily skin. I had tried just about every moisturiser out there that claimed to be tailored specifically to oily skin but they never worked; my skin always ended up looking greasier than before I'd applied it and would get progressively worse throughout the day, not to mention the breakouts they would give me!
That was until I found this lil' bad boy!

This moisturiser is a miracle worker; I don't think my skin could survive without it now! I have been using this morning and evening every day for about a month now and my skin is visibly so much clearer and looks a lot healthier.

Claims:

1. Hydrates- '24hr hydration without clogging pores. It absorbs quickly and leaves your skin feeling smooth and soft.'
2. Clears- 'helps to reduce and prevent spots and blemishes. Skin looks smooth and even, the complexion is visibly improved.'
3. Refreshes- 'the lightweight formula quenches your skin with hydration and uplifts your senses so you look and feel fresh.'

Verdict:

1. Hydrates- I do feel as though my skin stays hydrated for a long time, however I'm not sure if it's 24 hours as I'm never awake for that long to test it! It does last all day (for as long as I'm awake) though which is almost the same :) the moisturiser definitely absorbs quickly as I find that there is no residue left behind and I can apply make-up pretty much immediately after moisturising.

2. Clears- the amount of spots and blemishes I have had since using this moisturiser has reduced so much! I suffered from such bad breakouts prior to buying this but now I only get the occasional spot and haven't had a full on breakout (touch wood!). The texture of my skin has definitely improved as well as it looks a lot smoother and appears brighter and healthier :)

3. Refreshes- my skin definitely feels hydrated after using this product, leaving it immediately soft and smooth. I personally love the scent as it is so fresh and clean; this is something that really appeals to me as I hate using products that smell too harsh. I find that the formula is also really cooling on the skin, leaving me feeling refreshed both first thing in the morning before starting my day and last thing at night before going to bed :)

it looks like a little snowman :)

Overall I feel that this is the perfect moisturiser for my skin type as I have had no issues with it and it has helped my skin more than I thought it would. Also the main thing for me is that it reduces shine! My face stays shine free for hours, unless I get extremely hot for any reason which rarely happens in England!
I would 100% recommend this product to anyone reading who suffers from oily skin and breakouts as it is now my holy grail :)
If anyone knows of any other amazing moisturisers for oily skin types I would love to know as I'm all for trying new products!

Keep Smiling

Review- Topshop Heels

I bought these shoes at the beginning of June and I have literally fallen in love with them; they are the best heels I have ever owned!

The first thing that I love about them is that I think they are really cute, in an understated way. They're very classic and feel like I'll be able to wear them for a long time, no matter how many fashion trends come and go. They are versatile and can be worn for almost any occasion; I have worn them out for meals, to graduation, family events, my summer ball and out clubbing- that covers a wide range of events I think :)

The second (and most important) thing about any pair of heels is comfort! We all know how uncomfortable some heels can be, and to be honest I don't think I've ever owned a pair of comfortable heels...until now that is! I can wear these heels all day without any pain at all; this isn't even an exaggeration! I wore them all day at both a family christening and my graduation and didn't even need to take them off once- now that is a victory if there ever was one (in terms of shoes of course!). Also they are incredibly easy to walk in; I didn't trip when I walked up on stage to receive my certificate at graduation (which was my biggest fear of the day)!

The only negative thing I can find about these shoes is the price; they're more expensive than any pair of heels I've purchased being £45. However, I've come to the conclusion that the more money you pay for heels the better quality and comfort you get :) You get what you pay for I suppose!

I just really love these shoes and I think that everyone should own a pair :)
